How To Remove Your Recycle Bin From Your Desktop

I have been getting really frustrated that I can't hide or remove my recycle bin from my desktop. I have never really found it very useful to have to begin with, so how do I remove it?

Chris answers:

One of the major downfalls of Windows is the ability to not allow the administrator of their machine to use the OS as they like. To really gain full control of your system, you need to know the ins and outs of the registry and other back-end tweaks.

To remove the recycle bin from the desktop is one of those issues. There is software out there to help you do this, but I will walk you through it so you won't have to deal with annoying downloads.

Firstly, open your start menu and click the "Run..." tab. In the text area, type in gpedit.msc. This will take you to the group edit panel.

Once you are in that window, click "User Configuration" and select "Administration Templates". Next, select the "Desktop" folder. Now locate the "Remove Recycle Bin Icon From Desktop".


Then right click the selection to open the properties. Inside this window are three options: Not Configured, Enabled, and Disabled.
